Abusers use manipulation tactics to get what they want. According to Jenn Rockefeller on breakthesilencingdv.org, these are some of the tactics they use.
- Gaslighting
Gaslighting tactics are used to make their targets question their sense of reality, they make the victim believe that what is true about the abuse or situation is merely a figment of their imagination.
- Minimising
Abusers make victims believe that their “problems, issues, thoughts, feelings, and emotions are less important than theirs, to make their victims feel unimportant and insignificant.”
- Isolation
Abusers work hard at driving a wedge between the victim and their family so that they have no support system. This is to ensure they can abuse and control them in private without anyone knowing.
