Based on an article by Alanna Vagianos published on HuffPost US, the “U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) released the “Global Study on Homicide: Gender-related Killing of Women and Girls… [and the report revealed that] more than half were killed by partners or family members.” According to the report “six women are killed every hour by someone they know.”
The report also revealed an important fact about the gender of domestic violence victims and femicides, that more than 80% of victims are female.
A U.N. report states that 87,000 women were murdered last year, and over half were killed by intimate partners or family members, indicating that “82 percent of intimate partner homicide victims are women and 18 percent are men.”
Women are targeted “as a result of gender inequality, discrimination and negative stereotypes.”
