Lynne Rosychuk, lost her daughter, Jessica Martel, on 29 April 2009 when she was strangled to death by her husband in front of her three children.
Martel was going to escape that day, but her husband found out about her plans and it was too late. Rosychuk remembers being questioned by the media and when they were eventually interviewed, the children saw the interview on the news.
Rosychuk questioned whether she made the right decision to share Martel’s story. However, if she hadn’t shared Martel’s story, the Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation would have never been started.
A group of women had heard about her and her daughter’s” lifelong dream to one day open a safe haven for families fleeing domestic violence [and] where they would begin a new journey of hope and healing.
Their dream was realized in January 2012, because she shared her daughter’s story of domestic violence. Had she not shared it, she would have never started her own journey towards healing and help other women heal too.
