In a blog post on BTSDV (Break the silence against abuse), the topic of consent is explored and how to educate teens. However, it is not only teens who need to be educated about consent.
This is what consent looks like:
- consent is when someone gives clear permission for something to happen, whether a sexual act or anything else
- it is freely given
- it is reversible
- it is informed
It is not consent if you are afraid to say no. According to BTSVD, “just because someone says yes at one point, does not mean the answer will be yes in the future. A person can change their mind at any time before or during a sexual act.”
